Durham University
***Durham University is one of the world's top universities with strengths across the Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. We are home to some of the most talented scholars and researchers from around the world who are tackling global issues and making a difference to people's lives.

The University sits in a beautiful historic city where it shares ownership of a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral, the greatest Romanesque building in Western Europe.

A collegiate University, Durham recruits outstanding students from across the world and offers an unmatched wider student experience.

Less than 3 hours north of London, and an hour and a half south of Edinburgh, County Durham is a region steeped in history and natural beauty.

The Durham Dales, including the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are home to breathtaking scenery and attractions. Durham offers an excellent choice of city, suburban and rural residential locations.

The University provides a range of benefits including pension and childcare benefits and the University's Relocation Manager can assist with potential schooling requirements.

The Department
Durham University has made significant investments in the Department of Computer Science. The number of staff has grown from around 20 to 50.

We have launched new degree programmes, developed new research areas, and in January 2021 moved into a brand new purpose built building with our colleagues in Mathematics.

We are a relatively young and vibrant department - where inclusivity and collegiality is at the heart of what we do.

The Department's research structure consists of five Research Groups:

  • Algorithms and Complexity (ACID)
  • Artificial Intelligence and Human Systems (AIHS)
  • Network Engineering, Science and Theory (NESTiD)
  • Scientific Computing (SciComp)
  • Vision, Imaging and Visualisation (VIViD).
We are ranked 6th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2023.

The Role
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computer Science with a particular emphasis on algorithmic game theory.

The purpose of the role is to contribute to the EPSRC-funded project "KidneyAlgo: New Algorithms for UK and International Kidney Exchange_"_, working with Professor Daniel Paulusma and other project collaborators, with a focus on researching computational complexity aspects of fairness concepts from Cooperative Game Theory.

The project is a multi-site research project that involves Durham University (EPSRC grant EP/X01357X/1,

Principal Investigator:
Professor Daniel Paulusma) and the University of Glasgow (EPSRC grant EP/X013618/1,

Principal Investigator:
Professor David Manlove).

The project provides a synergy between the expertise of Durham in international kidney exchange and that of Glasgow in matching problems and kidney exchange.

Project researchers from both sites will act and regularly meet as a collaborative team during the duration of the project.

The successful applicant will be a member of the ACiD group within the Department.
