Support Worker - Manchester City Council

Rate - Negotiable - 1-3 Month contract.

Role Purpose -


The role holder will work as part of the Supported Accommodation team providing support to learning disabled adults living in ordinary houses in the community either on a permanent basis or with the Short Breaks service.


The role holder will provide practical and emotional support to customers that will promote independence and will assist and support other involved parties, to ensure positive outcomes for all customers.


Role responsibilities -


Provide person-centered high-quality support to individuals who may have complex needs and may display behavior's that challenge the service to maintain and develop daily living skills, enable full participation in a range of activities and assist and support customers to access appropriate community services.

To ensure all physical, emotional, social, cultural and religious needs are met.


Provide support and personal assistance to customers who may have a profound physical disability to develop and maintain their independence, whilst effectively managing any associated risks and reporting signs of injury, illness, suspected abuse to the appropriate member of the team.

Provide practical and personal support to individuals to maintain high levels of hygiene including personal and intimate care. Role holders will ensure medication is administered, taken and recorded, in line with the medication policy.


Promote equal opportunities in the workplace and deliver services which are accessible and appropriate to the diverse needs of customers in line with the Social Model of Disability.

Identify and understand health and social care needs of customers and respond to their needs by providing relevant services that promote their independence health and wellbeing including diet, exercise, and health Action Plans

Support the customers to ensure high levels of cleanliness in their home or Short Breaks Service.

Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with parents, families, and the carers and friends of customers.


Maintain records, monitoring information and ensure procedures are followed, such as cash handling and where appropriate share relevant information with colleagues.

Proactively participate in new initiatives and future changes in service delivery.

Personal commitment to continuous self-development and service improvement.

Essential Criteria -

  • Previous experience within a similar role
  • Must be willing to work unsocial shifts including weekends / evenings on a 24-hour shift rota

Salary:
£12.00-£14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Education:


  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

Experience:


  • Home care: 1 year (required)
Support Worker: 1 year (required)

  • English (preferred)

  • Driving Licence (preferred)

Ability to Commute:

  • Manchester, M23 1WD (required)

Ability to Relocate:

  • Manchester, M23 1WD: Relocate before starting work (required)
