    Job summary

    To provide support to nursing staff thereby ensuring that nursing time is spent primarily with the patient. To act as the initial point of contact for patients, visitors and callers to the ward ensuring their needs are met promptly and politely. To assist the ward staff in the smooth running of the ward by taking responsibility for the routine, administrative aspects of the ward organisation. Oversee the management of patient medical records on the ward on admission and post-discharge including overseeing the bookable follow-up care. And to assist the ward sister ensuring and clean and tidy environment at all times.

    Main duties of the job

    An excellent opportunity has arisen for one full-time and one part-time ward clerk to join our Acute Surgical Assessment team. Nye Bevan Unit provides care for acutely unwell general surgery patients from a range of different specialities.

    The ward clerk is a key and highly valued member of the team. The post is an integral part of theward inproviding an effective reception, clerical and administrative service to patients, visitors and nursing staff in order to support the delivery of optimum patient care.

    We are looking for someone who is organised and efficient, and can work without direct supervision.

    We are seeking a flexible, innovative person who will be sensitive and caring in meeting the needs of patients, visitors and staff.

    There will be other specified tasks to meet patients' individual needs as determined by the ward manager/nurse in charge.
