- Capable of reviewing the design brief with a senior design engineer and understanding the general issues.
- Confident to raise any issues that will need to be clarified so that the design can progress.
- Knowledge of the latest design standards, building regulations and a basic understanding of how to correctly implement them.
- Capable of considering access, future maintenance space and incorporating the requirements into any design.
- Understand how to lay out plant rooms, risers, plant decks etc to provide safe working access.
- Assess client issued drawings with a senior design engineer, and review for structural implications to design.
- Prepare a drawing register for incoming, and proposed outgoing drawings.
- Follow a design checklist for monitoring of the design process.
- Follow the HMS standard design procedure document, working with and supporting a Senior Engineer with heat loss / gain calculations.
- Commence system layout from rough sketches by the engineer in Revit taking into account the space requirements, co-ordination with other M&E systems and other trades.
- Request and utilise architects reflected ceiling plans for layout of vent.
- Design of mechanical services systems including: HVAC, Domestic water, Drainage systems, Gas
- Competent use of Autodesk Revit for creation of services drawings, schematics and coordination of multiple services.
