    Description

    An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Engineering Department for an Equipment Technology Technician to join the equipment technology team at The Port of Felixstowe. The role is to support and deliver the Port of Felixstowe's transition to Net Zero and use of autonomous equipment.

    Reporting to the Engineering Manager, directly supporting the port's projects to deliver our Net Zero targets which will include working on the highly sophisticated automation systems implemented at the Port, supporting autonomous vehicles and remote operated container handling cranes. Diagnosing, rectifying, and repairing faults on electrical and electronic based control and drive systems on Port container handling equipment.

    Please note, this particular opportunity will be working Monday – Friday days, with a salary up to £57,896 per annum depending on our skills framework and experience.

    Key Requirements

    · Ensuring all the maintenance repairs, modification and project work is carried out effectively and safely.

    · Working to ensure electrical/ electronic control, drive and Automation systems are cost effectively repaired and maintained in a safe manner with the minimum operational disruption and to improve the equipment reliability to meet our internal and external customer requirements.

    · Identifying key areas for improvements and coordinate staff, equipment and all necessary resources to complete within the agreed time frame.

    · To provide best MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) response time to all customer requests.

    · Supporting network communications, terminal operating system interface and positioning systems.

    · Ensure compliance to all policies, procedures, standard operating procedures and safe working practices, with recommendations for action and continuous development.

    · Directly responsible for the safe maintenance and ongoing security of equipment following repair and modification, complex electronic test and diagnostic equipment, your own PC, vehicle and mobile.

    · Able to provide a flexible approach to working hours with the objective of a consistent ETD service level and ensuring prioritisation of work to meet the business needs.

    · To ensure close team working with external suppliers and internal teams.

    Who are we looking for?

    Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria:

    Essential:


    • HNC in Electronic/ Electrical Engineering (working towards or equivalent)


    • Analyse and recommend preferred solutions for repairs and maintenance in addition to specific projects.


    • An in-depth knowledge of various PLC programming languages, control logic data communications, positioning systems and the interface with all ancillary control equipment to include terminal operating systems.


    • IOSH Managing Safely (or willing to work towards).


    • Shall be willing to undertake role specific in-house training and port plant licenses.


    • Demonstrate a flexible attitude to working.


    • To demonstrate excellent team working skills.


    • To be self-driven and proactively manage own objectives.


    • Able to make technical decisions in line with process, specification and operating procedures on both project and repair works including the safety of equipment to operate.


    • Continuously update own technical knowledge in order to stay ahead of the developing technology.


    • Full UK Driver's License.

    Desirable:


    • Container handling equipment knowledge and experience of container handling equipment.


    • Experience of automation systems, commissioning or maintenance.


    • A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
