Greater Manchester Housing First Team Leader


Reporting to the Head of Support Services, the Housing First Team Leader will be a member of the Independence and Wellbeing Management Team and is responsible for overseeing the day to day delivery of the contract and supervising the delivery of a high fidelity Housing First service which is trauma informed, supporting people who are experiencing homelessness.

The role will provide leadership and guidance to Housing First Workers promoting a positive culture and partnership working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of guidance, support and case management for the Housing First Workers, some of these will be employed by different organisations.
  • Effective liaison with the GMHF Central Team.
  • Ensure a consistent approach to support and experience for people on the programme.
  • Collate required performance information for the team relating to the customer's progress to support evaluation of the approach.
  • Responsible for risk profile of area of responsibility and be able to demonstrate effective risk management.
  • Build relationships with landlords and other agencies to encourage partnership working and improve the long term sustainability of outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Local Authorities across Greater Manchester.
  • Attend all key meetings both internal and external.
  • Operational management of service ensuring contract and financial compliance and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • To ensure the successful delivery of the contract taking responsibility for achievement of targets to agreed timeframes, budget and quality.
  • To proactively manage a team through:

- communication and feedback;
- role-modelling attitudes, behaviours and expectations;
- capturing the learning from mistakes and set-backs;

  • To ensure the safety of staff by appropriately managing lone working and ensuring all necessary safeguards are in place.

Person Specification

  • To have an understanding of the complex interdependencies of homelessness mental health and substance abuse and offending behaviour
  • Experience of managing and supervising staff; effectively coaching to enable creative problem solving
  • Promote the rights, responsibilities and informed choice of the people receiving the service through reflective practice with the staff team
  • Know when to seek assistance or supervision and how to engage meaningfully in planned supervision.
  • Adaptability to changing and emerging needs as the programme develops demonstrating flexibility and resilience in challenging situations
  • High level of relationship skills:
  • Empathy; caring; acceptance; mutual affirmation; an encouragement of responsible risk taking; supportive and constructive challenge and positive expectation for the future.
  • Experience of administration and recording procedures with the ability to audit case notes and gather required data to support the national evaluation
  • To have experience of dealing with housing management issues such as Anti-Social Behaviour in supported housing accommodation and working with landlords to find person centred solutions
  • Professional and value led with integrity, inclusivity and respect for diversity
  • An ability to work in uncertainty and maintain a positive approach.
  • Ability to work flexibly and when needed outside normal working hours
  • Ability to quickly build rapport;
