    Mechanical Design Engineer - 12 Month - Outside IR 35

    Role: Mechanical Design Engineer
    Location: Cumbria (2 days on site – 3 days remote)
    Duration: 12 months
    Start Date: ASAP

    OUTSIDE IR35 A client based in Cumbria is looking for several Mechanical Design Engineers with CREO experience. This is for an initial 12 month contract. ON- SITE 2 days per week and 3 days remote The candidate would ideally be SC Cleared or can be able to get SC Clearance. The Mechanical Design Engineers should have hands on experience with PTC CREO CAD tools and will develop and propose Concept Designs as well as supporting resolution of issues for the existing product portfolio as required. It is desired to have hands-on experience using PTC Creo to design and develop products for Machine gun systems (MGS) and their components and Advanced Gun systems (AGS) and their components, which are generally used by the Naval System.
    • Participate in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.

    • Analysis of customer requirements and their subsequent decomposition into functional system and sub system design requirements.

    • Prepare specifications and develop designs in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards.

    • Definition and control of interfaces via interface control drawings and space envelopes.

    • The generation of design and/or manufacturing detailed design CAD models and drawings.

    • Undertake the validation of systems/equipment which may include the generation of test schedules, test and integration plans and the writing/investigation of test problem reports.

    • Design safety

    • Design for Manufacture assembly, dis-assembly and end of life processing (BS8887 (MADE))

    • Design to cost, reliability and maintainability Skills:

    • 3D CAD (Ideally PTC Creo) hands on experience

    • Structural / Stress analysis (MS Excel, Mathcad, FEA {PTC Simulate or Ansys})

    • Working knowledge of technical office process standards and standard instructions (IBMS and LCM)

    • Working knowledge of drawing standards and the application of geometric tolerances.

    • Product Lifecycle awareness of the needs of downstream users to maximise the re-use of engineering data and minimise re-work to suit Manufacture and through-life support.

    • Familiarity with the CAD (CREO), PDM tools (TeamCenter) and the links to the ERP system (SAP).
