    Description

    We are recruiting a talented and enthusiastic Senior Infrastructure Engineer (SQL) to join the core NHS Wales National ICT Infrastructure team at Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW). This role will act as a subject matter expert within the SQL Infrastructure team whilst providing line management to the highly technical engineers within the team. This is a varied and challenging role, and we need a highly motivated, technically minded individual who can operate multiple projects simultaneously, co-ordinate business as usual tasks, whilst being heavily involved in developing, implementing and managing highly complex solutions.

    Successful candidates will be:

    • Highly experienced implementing and managing SQL Server both Standard & Enterprise
    • Experienced in implementing and managing database HA & DR technologies (AOAG & Mirroring)
    • Cloud aware with an understanding of SQL Server Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions
    • An excellent leader, with the ability to both manage and mentor staff and act as a team player
    • Succinct at absorbing technical information and providing accurate meaningful performance reports
    • An excellent communicator (presenting and authoring) to wide audiences
    • Passionate follower of the ITIL framework, to support policies and processes for service build and delivery
    • Adapted at negotiating and relationship building with a variety of stakeholders

    Main duties of the job

    • Manage the deployment and implementation of core Microsoft SQL infrastructure within DHCW.
    • Manage and mentor engineers within the SQL Services Infrastructure team.
    • Manage ongoing improvements of operational infrastructure services following ITIL Processes
    • Develop career pathway and training programme suited for technical progression within the business.
    • Responsible for monitoring, alerting, reporting and problem management within the SQL Infrastructure team.
    • Maintain, and manage relationships with all associated stakeholders.
    • Highlight and help manage open risk within SQL Infrastructure team.
    • Alongside colleagues participate in an on-call rota to provide 24x7 cover for services
    • Manage creation of appropriate documenting and automating of tasks.
    • Develop and produce regular meaningful reports on a variety of operational performance attributes.
    • Deputise for the Infrastructure Operational Lead and Head of Operations as required.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
