Role Overview:


This is an exciting new role developed as part of our work with the Department for Education to deliver the Delivering Better Value project.

Your role will be to lead on the development of SEND Improvement in Oldham, working alongside the School Improvement Officer and colleagues in the advisory teaching team to develop a robust practice of reviews, analysis and reporting which support both school development and wider development of service offers.

You will also work closely with other roles new to the council through the DBV, such as the transitions lead and Advisory Teacher leading on quality assurance, to support wider improvement of provision & practice across the borough.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide advice, support and challenge to setting leaders to raise standards in in relation to SEND & inclusion
  • Be the key link and support to leaders and LA services in relation to SEND Reviews & Quality Assurance of SEND within the borough, working alongside the Advisory Teaching team
  • Be the key link and support to leaders and LA services in relation to SEND Reviews & Quality Assurance of provision within the borough, working alongside the Advisory Teaching team.
  • Promote a network of practice which supports future review/quality assurance practice within the sector.
  • Maintain appropriate records and data to support effective targeted support to settings.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:

  • Evidence of continued professional, managerial and personal development in relation to education and/or SEND
  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Significant experience of work in a primary or secondary school.
  • Experience of senior leadership in education.
  • Experience of working at a strategic level influencing and advising on a range of quality improvement issues, including SEND, to provide improvement in standards in the short, medium and long term.
