    Description

    Kilgraston is looking to appoint a part time, (0.2FTE preferably Mondays), temporary (1 Year contract that may be extended depending on the business needs), Teacher of Music.

    Reporting to the Director of Music, the Teacher of Music will be responsible for delivering the curriculum for music including National 5 and Higher Music.

    Kilgraston School has a strong musical tradition.

    The Department runs a busy schedule of weekly rehearsals including a Senior Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Senior Choir, Intermediate Choir, Junior Choir and Chapel Choir, Jazz Band, Flute and Wind Ensembles, Brass Ensemble, Fiddle Group, Guitar Group, String Orchestra and Junior Orchestra.

    A large percentage of the pupils take weekly music lessons, and the standards of achievement are high with an increased number of pupils successfully sitting Associated Board and Trinity Grade examinations.

    There are many concerts and smaller recitals throughout the year in school and in the local and wider community.

    The school also hosts several musical days for Prep and Junior schools including Prep Strings, Beginner Strings and Junior Brass days.

    Kilgraston is a day and boarding school set in the beautiful Perthshire countryside.

    The school campus consists of 54 acres of parkland but is less than an hour's drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

    The school is part of the Sacred Heart Network.
    We are a 5-18 school catering for day and boarding pupils.

    We welcome boys from 5-11 but are then proud to be a girls' school with a strong family ethos and welcome international boarders.

    Teaching knowledge and skills

    • To be accountable for pupil progress and attainment levels within their lessons.
    • To follow the strategies that are in place to raise levels of attainment in Music for pupils.
    • To ensure informative and regular contact with the parents of pupils who study Music.

    • To maintain a teaching timetable modelling outstanding practice in terms of classroom teaching, preparation, marking and assessment.
    • To set high expectations for pupils' behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.
    • To promote good attendance and monitor it in accordance with school policy.
    • Lead the provision of music for Chapel services and assemblies.
    • To encourage and foster excellent lines of communication with key stakeholders, in relation to the Music department.
    • To use ICT to enhance teaching, learning, and recording of progress, consistent with Kilgraston School ICT policy. To ensure that pupils are fully prepared for external assessments and examinations.
    • To keep up to date with National developments in the subject area at key stages, teaching practice.
    • To ensure that all pupil data is understood, interpreted, and used to modify planning and personalise support.
    • To involve pupils in self-assessment within the subject.
    • Liaising with the Senior School Deputy Head Teacher.
    • Working with the Academic Support team to monitor and support alternative assessment arrangements where appropriate.
    • To review the attainment and progress of all pupils, groups, and subgroups regularly and provide support and interventions when appropriate.
    • To record and report on pupils' progress on 'Schoolbase' as outlined in the school and departmental assessment policies.
    • To liaise with all appropriate personnel regarding support for student progress, including DAS, ESOL department and Heads of Year. Ensure that pupil Alternative Assessment Arrangements are in place.

    You will be an effective teacher of your own academic subject but will have a strong interest in wider interdisciplinary connections and a commitment to promoting development in this area.
