    HEAD OF M&E - Engineering - Permanent Opportunity

    This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all activities, projects and personnel within the mechanical and electrical engineering team in GRAHAM Civil Engineering.

    This position will act as a liaison both internally and externally for M&E by interacting with, project managers, clients, consultants and vendors.

    The Head of M&E Engineering shall:

    Determine personnel needs for each project based upon the current and projected workload; Convey personnel needs to the Engineering Director and participate in the recruitment, interviewingand selection of prospective candidates.

    Act as a mentor for personnel, by providing continuous assistance and support throughprofessional training and career development.

    Plan personnel development and review performance and work quality, through evaluationsconducted on a regular basis, including formal annual and mid-year reviews.

    Provide recommendations on salary adjustments and promotions.
    Discuss project objectives, requirements and budgets with clients, M&E and site staff, and with theEngineering Director

    Lead the liaison with clients, client-representatives, designers, sub-contractors, third parties andstakeholders as required, to ensure acceptance of design and resolution of technical queries,relating to the M&E within the civil works.

    Ensure all M&E deliverables have been thoroughly examined and detailed during the tendering,ECI and construction delivery stages for technical content, drawing quality and adherence tocodes/project requirements.

    Ensure that design solutions are cost effective, reliable, robust and meet the project programme.

    Provide oversight and assistance with writing and editing of documents, specifications andequipment selection for M&E systems and devices, including the review of plant and equipmentselections from specialist subcontractors, manufacturers, or vendors.

    Establish design standards and procedures to manage the work of staff, as well as the project teams, by assisting in the review of quality assurance and quality control evaluations.

    Work as an integral member of the project delivery teams, providing M&E related technicalexpertise and support to the commercial, estimating, planning, procurement, quality, safety, and siteteams.

    Conduct or delegate job-site inspections, to ensure projects are adhering to specifications anddesign intent and participate in reviews for compliance in relation regulations.

    Ensure project documentation and handover files, comply with all company and regulatory qualityrequirements and satisfy client expectations, for content and format.

    Be active in the wider community by attending regional and national seminars, conventions andsummits.

    Collaborate with staff and project managers, to improve or develop new engineering methods andinnovations to improve efficiency, technique, quality and dependability.

    Follow core GRAHAM business systems and policies throughout the area of responsibility.

    This job description is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Head of M&E Engineering and the range of duties to be undertaken.

    Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited collegeor university.
    ~ Professional registration (MIMechE, MIET, MIEI) as a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer. 15 years minimum experience encompassing M&E engineering.
    ~Ability to successfully and continuously lead a team of engineering professionals to meet andexceed project, discipline, and business unit goals.
    ~ Specialist knowledge water/waste water or aligned discipline.
    ~ Commercial awareness and knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
    ~ Experience of sub-contractor management and contract negotiations.
