The Role


The Robotics Senior Research Engineer role is a wide ranging role primarily focused on the independent technical delivery of projects and leadership in the development of project related activities across the MTC, working across multiple technology departmentsand industrial sectors.


Duties and responsibilities include:


To lead project technical deliverables, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, and is delivered within agreed budgets and timescales.

Where delegated, to act as Technical Governance lead for project deliverables.

To undertake innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and able to demonstrate industrial project delivery.

To support Senior Managers with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial member's premises.

The SRE role will require involvement in all aspects of the project delivery, taking overall ownership and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, management of project budget and deliverables.

The SRE role will involve line management of a small team, including responsibilities such as development conversations with the engineers, supporting the Resource Management function in project work allocation and managing team performance to ensure alignmentwith department targets.


The Person
A degree calibre engineer, in a related discipline: Computer-science, Robotics Engineering, scientist or mathematician.
Confident to advise external customers and create concept designs of automation solutions, right through to commissioning robotics/automation cells and equipment on site (FAT/SAT, CE marking of equipment or awareness);
Expert knowledge of automation and robotics systems and understanding of commercially available and developing technologies relating to: safety systems, robot programming, kinematics, dynamics, motion / pathway planning, closed-loop control system, computervision;
Design and development of robotic and automation technologies, and can demonstrate expertise in automation product development;
Knowledgeable or experienced of human/robot collaboration and co-botics, and/or tele-operation technologies and capabilities;
Must have experience in the delivery of research projects.
Ideally, experienced in industry and can clearly articulate knowledge of the manufacturing sector and deep understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies;
Desired, interest in robotics for sustainability.
Ideally working towards professional registration, Chartered professional qualification is desirable;
