Job summary
The Regional Affective Disorders Service (RADS) is one of a limited number of specialist/tertiary level affective disorder services in the UK providing both out-patient and in-patient care for patients with difficult to treat mood disorders.
The Regional Affective Disorders Service is based in Newcastle upon Tyne which provides care for patients living in the North East of England, over the age of 18, with complex and/or treatment refractory affective disorders and other treatment refractory conditions complicated by an affective component.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lead (Nurse) in Affective Disorders. This post will span both the inpatient service, based on Gibside Ward and the outpatient service, based at The Wolfson Research Centre, Centre for Aging and Vitality. The post holder will provide clinical leadership across the pathway and also provide operational management to the outpatient service.
This post will be based between Gibside ward at St Nicholas Hospital and The Wolfson Research Centre, Centre for Aging and Vitality, however there will be a requirement to complete ad hoc visits to other inpatient wards across the North East and North Cumbria as required to complete assessments.
This post will involve working a shift pattern across a 7 day week.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be working as part of a specialist multi disciplinary team, consisting of medics, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, delivering high quality care to patients. The successful post holder will provide enhanced clinical leadership for the staff working across the service. They will provide a range of learning opportunities, including formal teaching sessions, group clinical supervision sessions, task shadowing, role modelling, etc.
The successful post holder will work closely with medical colleagues to support the admission process, completing inpatient assessments on other hospital wards to identify the suitability of inpatient transfers. They will work closely, as required, with enhanced bed management to support appropriate patient pathway flow.
The successful post holder will take an active lead in audit and service development , contributing to the evidence base for treatment approaches. They will also take a lead in complex cases, complex risk management, safeguarding, etc. in line with trust policy and procedures.
The post holder will also provide operational management for the RADS outpatient service and will deputise for the inpatient ward manager, as required.
