An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Adult inpatient wards at Berwick Ward, Northgate Park, Morpeth.


Berwick Ward is a medium secure unit based in Sycamore at Northgate Park which is part of Secure Care Services, within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.

Following assessment Berwick Ward provides care and treatment for men with mental health problems in a secure setting.

We have 14 beds for men who have usually come into contact with the Criminal Justice System and who may pose a risk to themselves or others.

We accept patients who are from the North East of England, from other mental health units, prison or as a step down from high secure hospitals


You must have a strong commitment to the delivery of high quality, safe, patient care and be a good role model in reflecting the Trusts core values.

You will be provided with training opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, offered regular supervision and support and have ongoing well-being conversations.


The Nursing Assistant role will:


  • To work within a multidisciplinary team assisting in the development and implementation of collaborative, needs based care plans.
  • To support the team in providing excellent and effective person centred, nursing care.
  • They are actively involved in the health and wellbeing of staff and service users.
  • They are visible and accessible to patients, families and carers working together to ensure efficient, effective and caring service.
  • They contribute to achieving all performance indicators, essential standards and quality outcomes.
  • Deliver and maintain high standards of clinical care; implementing individual plans of care based on a person centred assessment.
  • Provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
  • Assist in the delivery of therapeutic clinical based interventions and activities which meet individual needs embracing equality and diversity.
  • Engage in regular family/carer contact/support to encourage collaborative decision making.
  • Have the courage to speak out, challenge and help inform the future of nursing care.
