The General Dental Council (GDC) currently have an exciting opportunity for a Caseworker to join the Fitness to Practice's (FTP) Rule 4 Team.


The Rule 4 Team is responsible for preparing evidence bundles for fitness to practise cases which have been referred for case examiners to consider.

This gives the registrant an opportunity to provide their formal observations before an allegation of impaired fitness to practise is considered by the case examiners, as well as allowing the informant to provide any additional comments in relation to the allegations.


The team deals with various stakeholders including defence unions and the GDC's in-house legal team and therefore excellent oral and written communication skills are essential in this role.

The work requires a high amount of attention detail whilst producing the evidence bundles for disclosure, including careful consideration to ensure all documents have been appropriately included and necessary redactions have been applied.


About the role

In this interesting and varied role, you will:

  • Manage a varied and complex caseload of fitness to practise matters.
  • Prioritise and manage your own workload, including planning investigations and using analytical skills to explore appropriate investigative methods and relevant information.
  • Obtain information in accordance and compliance with departmental procedures and deadlines.
  • Use initiative and problemsolving skills to manage competing demands to ensure high quality investigations.
  • Present highquality assessment reports which identify issues clearly and present recommendations based on sound rationale.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders by providing consistent and highquality customer service.
  • Ensure a high standard of quality is maintained with written correspondence and documents.
  • Manage large quantities of sensitive information, safeguarding privacy.
  • Maintain accurate records and case information using the case management system to ensure the integrity of data is maintained.
  • Recognising high risk / cases of a serious nature and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Delegate tasks as appropriate to Casework Assistants and undertake quality assurance.

About you:


  • Excellent oral communication and customer service skills with the ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and able to communicate professionally in challenging situations.
  • Experience of working under pressure in a busy, demanding, environment using prioritisation and organisational skills when managing competing deadlines.
  • Experience of working flexibly in a team assisting others and encouraging team morale.
  • Experience of working independently, autonomously and being selfmotivated to be able to seek advice when appropriate and instruction when necessary.
