We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative colleague to join an established care of elderly Consultant team within a busy district general hospital environment.

The main components of the role are supervising in
- patient clinical management of older adults and providing leadership and support to a community-based rehabilitation ward.


We have embraced the new virtual way of working with daily virtual hospital review for patients suffering with frailty, we work closely with our community colleagues to help with admission avoidance with regular rapid response sessions and community MDT's and encourage working from home (where agreed).


The successful post holder will contribute to this continuous relationship by having regular scheduled sessions in the community, and with can have a speciality interest during the week.

We welcome applicants with specific special areas of interest even if these are outside this job specification and applicants who may choose to work a contracted working week.

It is also expected that the successful applicant will be part of GIM and duty Geriatrician on call duties.

The Trust have agreed a proposal for up to 1PA of SPA time/week to be worked flexibly.


This change in in line with the Trusts' flexible working agenda and recognition of the enormous contribution that this group of staff continue to provide to our staff and patients.

The post holder will have responsibility for a 16 bed general care of elderly ward (supported by 1 IMT3, 2 FY1, 1 FY2 and 1 trust grade SHO) and take part in a geriatrician of the day on call from 13:00-17:00 working 1 day (negotiable Mon-Thursday) every two weeks.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with other Consultants, Junior Doctors, Nursing staff, Assistant Divisional Manager, Assistant Service Manager, Medical Secretaries, Admin staff and other staff across all three WHHT sites, to support and develop inpatient and outpatient care of the elderly services for the local population.


The successful applicants will be joining an established Medicine for the elderly Consultant team with ample opportunity to contribute to the department in a variety of ways; equally all speciality interests are supported.

This post will participate in the GIM rota and a separate Medicine for the Elderly on call rota.
