An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy Facilities Team within the Directorate of Estates & Facilities.

Working Monday - Wednesday, in one of our admin buildings within Colchester.


The post holder will assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for patients, trust staff and visitors in line with the National Standards of Cleanliness.


We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable, motivated & have excellent organisation skills to work as part of our team and also have the ability to use a degree of initiative to prioritise and organise the daily duties across our sites which include in-patient areas/admin units/clinics and retail.

Must have knowledge of cleaning & COSHH and some working knowledge around health & safety.

Must have the ability to work under pressure and good physical fitness.

Excellent interpersonal and customer skills.

Understanding of the NHS colour coded system.

Food hygiene knowledge around basic food hygiene.

To maintain the required standard of cleaning services following the correct procedure and frequencies.

Undertake a variety of cleaning duties in line with the cleaning schedules (may include operating specialist equipment).

Carry out specialist cleaning also one off cleans in line with the supervisors requirements.

You will be responsible for mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing of floors, high/low dusting, cleaning toilets/bathrooms/bedrooms/offices/communal areas/kitchens/corridors.


Full training will be given for the role however, previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage, as would previous NHS experience.

Be responsible for keeping all equipment used in a clean, safe & tidy condition.


Be responsible for bringing to the attention of the supervisor any faults on equipment, particularly damage to plugs/wiring etc on any electrical equipment.

What is Staff Bank?


Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.


All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.


If you are joining our Trust in a fixed term role, please indicate on your New Starter Paperwork that you wish to join our staff bank.


Main duties will include vacuuming, mopping, replenishment of dispensers (toilet paper, hand towels & soap), cleaning of toilets/bathrooms/sanitary ware, kitchens, bedrooms, communal areas, lounges, offices, high & low dusting, operate machinery/equipment (vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, scrubbing machines & regeneration ovens).


To assist (where applicable) with the regeneration process of cook chill meals by taking and recording of the temperature of food prior to placing into the oven and commencing the cook cycle.

Prepare soup, gravy and custard for the meal service. Also responsible for serving and clearing away the meals served to patients. Responsible for cleaning of all crockery/cutlery that is used in the meal service.
