Euclid Electronics Engineer

12 month contract

Up to £575 per day

Hybrid

Key Skills:

Electronics engineering, understanding of basic physics, electronics board-level and system-level testing and test and debug PCBs at component level.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electronics System Engineer to join the engineering group


The post holder will work within the project team to offer electronic engineering support to the Instrument operations team for the Euclid VIS instrument.

The post is funded for the first two years and is expected to be extended thereafter.


The post holder will learn how this system works, be responsible for interpreting housekeeping data and helping the operations team with technical support when problems occur.


Duties and responsibilities:
The postholder will be expected to undertake the following duties:

Monitor the instrument (engineering);
Provide engineering support as part of Instrument operations team on anomalies, any serious behaviour seen in the health assessment and any problems seen on the science side related to the instrument;
Help define the changes required in case of a software update;
Contribute actively to the development of the project through being a member of multi-national project teams;
Develop expertise in electronics engineering for spacecraft systems and space agency requirements;
Support spacecraft verification testing at the spacecraft operations centre in Germany;
Write reports on testing and activities;
Attend project team meetings to report on schedule progress, technical difficulties etc.;
Develop and support project plans;
Write project test plans;
Give input to the requirement and progress documents required by the external funding agencies;
Contribute to instrument operations at a consortium level;
Support instrument scientists with technology operations;
Publish in conference proceedings where appropriate.


Qualifications, experience and knowledge
University degree or equivalent experience in electronics engineering or equivalent

Experience and expertise in electronics engineering

A good understanding of basic physics

Essential

Established experience in the design and test of digital electronics circuitry and systems including serial data communications down to the component level

Desirable

Demonstrable experience in the design, analysis & test of low noise analogue electronic circuitry

Knowledge with regard to space
- or aerospace-related electronics design

Proven ability to design high-speed digital electronic systems

Desirable

Previous experience of electronics board-level and system-level testing

Excellent written and oral communications skills, including technical writing
