Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Nurse in charge or by delegation to the senior person on duty.
JOB DESCRIPTION
To work with a multi-disciplinary team which involves working with GPs, nurses, hospitals, tissue viability nurses, patients and family members whilst also providing support in the delivery of care to service users.
Typical duties of the job include:
- Provide support in the delivery of care
- Supervise and direct carers
- Support the healthcare advisor and RGN on duty
- Plan work schedules for teams and assign/delegate room responsibilities/general responsibilities to staff, 1:1 schedule, teams and breaks
- Oversee that the responsibilities are correctly undertaken, and documented before end of each session ie: Early, Late and Night Duty.
- Actively pursue and maintain relationships with the community and maintain contact between service users and their relatives/friends. Encourage relatives to become involved in ongoing contact with service user. Facilitate support of relatives and next of kin during End of Life care.
- Promote a healthy team work approach from colleagues where advocacy, choices and preferences, dignity, safety and well being of every service user is paramount in delivery of all care provided.
- Oversee provision of service to optimise efficiency, time management and commitment in order to achieve excellent outcomes of care.
- Supervise and help other care assistants that are on duty and will be the first point of contact for any issues concerning the resident's care plan and/or daily operational issues. The senior carer will keep records of issues, rotas and ensure a smooth hand over between shifts. Alongside the RGN
- Oversee works carried out by the kitchen staff to ensure that meal requirements are being met and that the carers are completing the menu matrix.
- Ensure that equipment checks are carried out beds, hoists, mattresses, wheelchairs, scales, their function, use, storage and cleanliness.
- Ensure key workers fulfil their responsibilities and manage any issues which may arise.
- Facilitate and oversee care staff inductions, the recording of inductions and COSHH, Fire instruction, initial supervision and competency assessment on day one of induction.
- Assist the RGN with medication when possible and only once full training and competencies have been completed.
