Salford Royal is a regional major trauma centre providing acute trauma services across the whole of Greater Manchester. 2023 will see further expansion of the service with the opening of our purpose built state of the art receiving centre as we become the GM principle receiving centre for Major Trauma


An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake a Senior Major Trauma Co-ordinator role, as a secondment opportunity, to cover sabbatical leave.

Applications are invited for a committed individual with a passion for major trauma care to join the Major Trauma Team and take the role as a Major Trauma Coordinator.


As part of the Major Trauma Team you will be responsible for the coordination of the major trauma patients care and the journey through the trust from the Emergency Department to discharge or rehabilitation.


Main duties of the job:

To provide specialist support in the assessment, planning and
implementation of care, for major trauma patients admitted to Salford Royal.

As part of the major trauma team you will facilitate the major trauma patient's progress from the emergency department to discharge, coordinating their plans, interventions and journey.

You will ensure care is delivered in an appropriate and timely manner. You will lead and coordinate the acute MDT's to ensure specialty cohesion and shared decision making.


Working with other members of the major trauma team you will ensure the completion of the rehabilitation assessments within the national guidelines time limits and the completion of the rehabilitation prescription.

You will be accountable for your own professional actions and not directly supervised.

You will have specialist knowledge and interest in major trauma and sound clinical knowledge of polytrauma patients with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and complex MSK injuries.

You will facilitate data collection and submissions to TARN and participate fully in the service development and improvements

You will develop a thorough understanding of trauma data and effectively take responsibility for managing your own workload.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months.

Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

Essential criteria:


  • Current NMC registration first level nurse, or HPC registration for physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist
  • Degree in nursing/ physiotherapy/ occupational therapy or an equivalent portfolio of evidence

Experience:


Essential criteria:


  • Understanding and experience of the major trauma networks and care of the major trauma patient
  • 2 years post registration plus 3 years' experience within speciality
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in major trauma supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
  • Effective communicator able to communicate complex and sensitive information

  • Can demonstrate assertiveness, tact and diplomacy appropriately
  • Evidence of involvement in policy, quality improvement and audit
