    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic midwife to join the practice development team.

    Are you an experienced midwife looking for a development opportunity? Do you like teaching and supporting others in clinical practice? We are looking for an enthusiastic midwife to work with us on a 9-month secondment supporting the International Recruitment of Midwives. Royal Berkshire Maternity Unit has been recruiting and supporting midwives with International links since 2019 and the team is well versed in the process. You will be joining a team of experienced educators and clinicians who will see you develop and grow your skills and this role.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will assist and support International midwives to ascertain their NMC registration as part of an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) programme.

    The post holder will provide delivery of clinical support, supervision and education for International midwives within the classroom and clinical setting, who are preparing for their OSCE.

    The post holder will assist in providing a professional and responsive service of ongoing clinical support to enable International midwives to make a seamless transition into the maternity workforce.

    Job responsibilities

  • To prepare International midwives to take their OSCE assessment
  • To co-ordinate and deliver the OSCE training program
  • To be responsible for booking OSCE assessment for all International midwives
  • To support International midwives in their clinical practice area to develop their competencies and provide their mentors with the appropriate guidance and support to fulfill their roles including coaching and assessing
  • To co-ordinate the ongoing learning experience of International midwives
  • To ensure that International midwives have appropriate orientation and induction program to be able to work effectively in their clinical area
  • Work with teams receiving International midwives to ensure that expectations are managed and midwives are welcomed and receive an induction to their area of work
  • To participate in the planning and delivery of multi-professional education provisions in the maternity department
  • The post holder will work within Trust guidelines/ policies/ protocols and the Nursing and Midwifery Councils codes and recommended practices.

    Essential

  • Registered midwife
  • Mentorship/SSSA qualification
  • Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level/able to demonstrate evidence that is working at degree level/commenced degree pathway
  • Leadership/management qualification
  • Experience

  • Significant recent experience in midwifery
  • Detailed experience of leadership/management
  • Experience in facilitation/teaching/assessing/coaching
