Salary:
£45,151 - £47,902, DOE


Contract:
Permanent, Full Time


Hours:37 per week

Brighton Students' Union (BSU) provides representation, support and services to the 19,000 students studying at the University of Brighton, with a mission of Making Student Life Better.

Membership Services are critical in creating opportunities to build communitiesand friendships and supporting students on an individual and collective basis.


Director of Membership Services -
The Role:

Membership Services

  • Provide strategic leadership for all membership areas of BSU.
  • Ensure close collaboration between all membership services teams and the Officers.
  • Develop initiatives and activities designed to increase membership engagement.
  • Ensure that all activities and services run under Membership Services are accessible and relevant for students, reacting to insight.
  • Ensure all elections and other democratic processes are run in accordance with the relevant policy and maximise engagement.
  • Advise on short, medium and longterm operational developments in line with organisational strategic aims and future planning framework.
  • Create regular reports on membership activities for SMT and the Trustee Board as requested.
  • Work with relevant staff, ensure the development of an effective marketing plan for all membership areas.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO to train, support and coach elected officers throughout their term of office.
  • Be an active member of the BSU Senior Management team and provide constructive input into activities which fall outside of the remit of the role.
  • Provide specialist membership services guidance and advice to the Senior Management Team.
  • Play an active role in the development of BSU's strategic and operational plans.
General Duties

  • Work in a manner which reflects the values and democratic structure of the Union as shown in the Union's Articles and Strategic Plan.
  • Keep uptodate with relevant legislation, policies, rules and regulations relevant to the role.
  • Adhere to all BSU policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and take ownership of their induction, personal development plan, departmental staff meetings and be responsible for undertaking duties with full regard for others within the conditions of employment detailed in the Staff Handbook.
  • Degree in relevant field, or related qualification, or extensive proven experience
  • Extensive experience of working in a not for profit or membership organisation at management level
  • Extensive experience of managing a medium sized staff team with a diverse set of roles
  • Experience of managing operational budgets
  • Experience of finding proactive solutions to issues, on limited resources that deliver high quality results
  • Experience influencing positive changes for a group of people
  • Experience of creating and delivering an annual operating plan and associated KPIs
  • Detailed knowledge of the current issues impacting higher education students
  • Experience creating and delivering organisational wide objectives
