We have an exciting opportunity to work within the Tier 3 eating disorders service, the Service for High-risk Eating Disorders (SHED) for Cardiff and the Vale UHB and Cwm Taf UHB.

The team provides a clinical service across both of these areas, and your main workplace will be at the team's office base in Cardiff Royal Infirmary.

The role involves providing the SHED multi-disciplinary team with support in their clinical duties.

The SHED team provides a community-based service to people who are experiencing severe eating disorders, as well as supporting clients and ward staff during local hospital admissions for the treatment of an eating disorder.


Your role will include:


  • Work under own initiative to plan and prioritise own caseload of patients, with guidance and support from a Dietitian, in accordance with clinical protocols.
  • Carry out reviews and therapy programmes for patients, including using computer assisted software packages.
  • Monitor and encourage clients to follow their therapeutic care plan, using persuasion and guidance to increase compliance using developed communication skills.
  • Carry out measurements of anthropometry such as weight, height and calculating Body Mass Index (BMI) and percentage weight loss.
  • Gather relevant clinical data including anthropometry, biochemistry, dietary intake, feeding regimen and other patient related data.


The post holder will follow standard operating procedures and contribute to the aims and outcomes of the Nutrition & Dietetic Service by providing support and assistance to Dietitians working within the Nutrition and Dietetic Service.

To plan and prioritise patient caseload and implement treatment of patients in the relevant care setting i.e.

acute/rehab wards, care homes and own homes, carrying out consultations for patients who need oral nutritional support or enteral tube feeding., Supervision from Dietitians is routinely available for reference and guidance.

The post holder may also support dietetic services with collection and management of data for the purposes of audit and service evaluation.


The post holder will enable, support and assist patients who are receiving individual treatment programmes which have been agreed with and planned by the Dietitians.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
