About the role

The role of Design Manager is pivotal to controlling and developing the design phase of all projects across new connections and EV charging.


Responsibilities are essentially divided into two key workstreams:
Design Operations - management of the design process and workflow; utilising internal and external design teams to deliver project design requirements on-time, on-budget and to the appropriate quality standards
Continuous Improvement - lead the strategy and implementation of change to the Design function; ensuring that the processes, resources and output are fit to support the planned business growth from 2023 onwards

Key responsibilities
Overseeing the day-to-day design operations for ICP & EV project delivery, covering all key disciplines (civils, HV, LV, temporary works etc)
Managing internal and external design resources to deliver on-time, on-budget and to the required specifications
Enforcing stringent, 'industry-leading' quality standards in output/drawings at each design stage
Ensuring service level agreements for design completion are consistently delivered by internal and external design resources
Reporting on the performance of the design function to the Senior Leadership Team and other relevant stakeholders at regular intervals
Maintaining disciplined document management and version control both during and after the design process
Reducing commercial and operational risk through robust design reviews and governance
Undertaking site and client visits where necessary to support high-profile projects
Mitigating the likelihood of health and safety incidents via comprehensive, safety-focused, design output
Shaping and implementing the future strategy of the design function to ensure it is fit to support forecasted business growth
Driving continuous improvement of all business processes linked to design (directly or indirectly)
Monitoring changes in legislation, regulation and codes of practice to ensure absolute compliance
Onboarding, and ongoing management, of third-party design partners
Building strong and effective working relationships with other internal teams and key colleagues
Engaging with the wider Mitie-group design community to seek best practice and efficiencies
Balance working remotely with consistent office-working for team engagement

Degree
5 GCSE's
Infrastructure Project Experience
