    Role Summary

    The Marex Group has grown significantly via both acquisitions and organic growth. The role of Senior VAT Manager includes taking responsibility all matters related to indirect tax on a global (ex-US) basis. This includes global compliance for the group, but also advising on the VAT implications of new acquisitions, business change and the integration of new businesses.

    Overseeing the VAT compliance for the group includes ensuring the submission of indirect tax returns is completed accurately and on a timely basis in countries around the world including the UK, Ireland, France, Canada, Singapore and various others. This role also includes maintaining the relationship with our global compliance provider, EY.

    Overall Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the Group's UK operations are compliant with MTD for VAT requirements and preparing the UK VAT returns and Annual adjustment under PESM.
  • Maintaining, reviewing and improving the UK PESM to improve the recovery rate where possible and assisting the Global Head of Tax with discussions with HMRC on changes to the PESM as the group evolves and grows.
  • Lead the Marex response to Tax Authority enquiries relating to VAT/GST/Sales Tax matters globally.
  • Review of existing VAT treatments across all product lines and providing VAT advice to the business when new product lines are proposed to ensure the correct VAT treatments are applied.
  • Provide detailed VAT guidance on all new business ventures by the group, including managing the VAT implications of acquisitions and opening offices in new jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors including agreeing scopes of work, fees and getting any other assistance as required.
  • Ensuring that all VAT control processes are suitably robust and well-documented with an appropriate level of governance in place.
  • Provide advice and regular training to the Accounts Receivable and Payable teams on VAT treatments of invoices and working with our in-house financial software developers to ensure correct VAT/GST/Sales tax treatments are applied in all jurisdictions.
  • Oversight of all indirect tax returns submitted globally including in: Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, UAE and other countries as obligations arise.
  • Providing VAT advice during potential acquisitions including the VAT due diligence, VAT treatment of the transaction and ongoing integration into the Marex business.
  • Responsibility for the substantiation of all VAT balance sheet items within the Marex group.
  • Where necessary, support the US Head of Tax on any ad-hoc Sales and Use Tax queries.
  • The main point of contact on all VAT related queries from the business.
  • Assist with wider Finance team initiatives on an ad-hoc basis.
  • At all times complying with the FCA's Code of Conduct
  • To ensure that you are fully aware of and adhere to internal policies that relate to you, your role or any other activities for which you have any level of responsibility
  • To report any breaches of policy to Compliance and/ or your supervisor as required
  • To escalate risk events immediately
  • To provide input to risk management processes, as required.
  • Skills and Experience

  • UK/EU VAT specialist with significant experience gained in the Financial Services sector or large practice background that has advised the Financial Service Sector.
  • Qualified ACA, ACCA or CTA is preferable, but we are willing to consider someone with significant Financial Services Sector VAT experience and a proven track record.
  • Strong excel skills are essential as there will be a lot of data analysis required.
  • Strong communication skills are required, both written and verbally, in order to be able to explain VAT concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals.
  • To be able to take a leading role on all VAT related matters at Marex including providing responses to any business queries.
  • Experience of PeopleSoft/Oracle Accounting systems would be an advantage.
  • A professional approach with the ability to meet agreed deadlines without compromising on quality.
