Up to 18 months, Fixed Term contract, Grade G (SCP £24,496 - £26,845 pro rata

Unlocking Collections:
Warwickshire Museum project aims to understand the 19th century Founding Collection of the Warwickshire Natural History and Archaeological Society at Warwickshire Museum the people that created the collections and why they collected, to discover the stories of individuals from the Society and biographies of individual objects.
The starting point for the project is to research and catalogue the Collection, identifying new stories and hidden histories behind the objects and who collected.
This will inform a community co-curation project, led by a specialist Engagement Officer, to develop new ways of working collaboratively with volunteers, visitors and participants.
We hope to deepen visitors' understanding of this collection, how people collected in the past and how Warwickshire Museum Service collects now.
The process of creating a new approach to co-curation will use the research into the founding collection to explore how and why people collect today - the what and the why, to focus on individuals to develop a narrative for public engagement within the First Museum gallery of at the Market Hall Museum.
As Collections Assistant, you will be working with the Collections team to initiate and deliver research, documentation and collections care linked to the founding collection of Warwickshire Museum.
- Documentation of the collections (to include primarily geology, natural history and archaeology, with some social history and ethnography) and associated data
- Research into collections provenance, ownership and associated narratives with special reference to geology, archaeology and natural history
- Targeted digitisation of the Founding Collections
- Maintaining best practice in collections care undertaking basic condition checking and elements of pest management, improving storage of the identified collections, where appropriate
- Supervision of volunteers and establishment of voluntary work programmes
- Assisting with the creation of displays, exhibitions and webbased resources
The role will be line managed by Richard Lewis, Delivery Lead (Collections and Development), with day-to-day reporting to the Curator of Natural Sciences and Curator of Human History.

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire has several sites based in and around Warwick; Market Hall Museum, St Johns House, Warwickshire County Record Office and the Warwickshire Museum Collections Centre.
We are a countywide service and working with partners from within and outside Warwickshire County Council offer outreach services to local communities.
