Description
"They are good to deal with and go above and beyond." - Chambers & Partners_

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Associate or Associate Director to join our Projects team in either London or Bristol.

You will be involved in a variety of energy transactions and energy projects, focused on the renewables sector/net zero. You would be joining a highly-regarded team which has an exciting pipeline of existing work.

The team has been growing rapidly and is ambitious to build further to develop opportunities to support the energy transition.

You will be given early responsibility for building client relationships and business development whilst working in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

The practice
Our energy team offers clients expertise in energy M&A, commercial energy contracts, project development, project finance, restructurings and exits.

In particular, we have been at the forefront of the move to a decentralised and decarbonised energy and energy innovation more broadly.

We support clients across a wide-range of low carbon technologies including solar, wind, storage, biomass, green hydrogen, small modular nuclear reactors and electric vehicle charging.

Our clients include some of the leading developers, sponsors and lenders in the energy sector on a UK-wide level and internationally.

The practice has recently been boosted further by three new high-profile Partner hires into the team.

We also have market-leading energy practices in several other European markets including Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Poland. The wider Projects team has expertise in education, universities, healthcare, rail, roads, airports and related transport infrastructure.

The team

The Projects team is split between London and Bristol with 13 Partners; 6 Associate Directors; 5 Senior Associates; 6 Associates, 8 Trainee Solicitors and 1 Paralegal.

You will have the opportunity to work directly with a number of Partners in the team.

The work

The energy practice undertakes work that is interesting and challenging - and is often at the cutting-edge of energy innovation.

It requires a combination of industry and market knowledge, a strong transactional skillset and legal/risk management expertise.

Recent work undertaken by our Projects team in the energy sector includes:

  • Advising a hydrogen-focused fund on a series of acquisitions and project developments. The projects are expected to be amongst the earliest commercial green hydrogen generation facilities in the UK.
  • Advising one of the UK's largest flexible generators on 11 acquisitions, 15 private wire projects, two "Pathfinder" grid stability projects and several project financings.
  • Advising a leading UK developer and USbased funder on their joint venture arrangements, and subsequently on 6 ongoing solar and battery developments and 13 acquisitions.
  • Advising Macquarie/GIG on the setup of its electric vehicle charging platform and subsequent projects.
  • Advising the EPC Contractor on the construction contracts for the largest battery storage development in the UK to date.
  • Advising a UKbased infrastructure fund on its investment in a hugely innovative and ambitious storage project in the Netherlands.

Technical skills and experience

This is a busy and successful team, and there will be excellent opportunities for career progression for a highly-motivated, energy enthusiast.

Your career development
Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme.

At each stage of your career this provides you with:

- clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
- high quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
- thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
- robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you; and
- reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.

Salary and benefits
We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
