    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established team of Children's Complex Care Nurses in Birmingham on a Permanent basis. This is a city wide service that offers personalised specialist nursing support to children & families with a variety of highly complex physical health needs.

    We provide bespoke commissioned packages of care to children within their own homes, schools and other community locations. The service operates seven days a week and 24 hours a day.

    If you are an experienced Children's Nurse with excellent clinical skills, have advanced communication abilities you may be who we are looking for to join our busy team. This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop rewarding therapeutic relationships with children & families in a community setting.

    Main duties of the job

    Within this role you will be required to provide training and supervision to other members of the team including health care assistants as well as parents and family members ensuring their competence in meeting the care needs of specific children and young people. This client group has highly complex health needs which include children and young people that are technology dependent requiring invasive ventilation. The Children's Complex Care Team forms part of the wider Specialist Nursing Service which includes Children's Rapid Response, Children's Palliative Care and the Children's Community Nursing Team.

    The post holder will be responsible for delivering high quality nursing care according to agreed standards which are set and monitored.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

  • Work in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
  • Professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all activities.
  • Responsible for the assessment, development and evaluation of nursing care of
  • children and young people with complex health needs including life limiting and life threatening conditions and their families. Clinical skills to include caring for children who require long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, suction, enteral feeds etc. These skills will be gained by completing competency based training.
  • Provide comprehensive evidence based and skilled nursing care to children and young people within their own home or other community settings.
  • Provide health education information to the child and family, to promote a healthy lifestyle and where appropriate address public health issues.
  • Participate in teaching packages and undertake competency reviews using Coventry and Warwickshire Competency Children and Young person Framework to Health Care Assistants and other professionals to ensure evidence based care are safely delivered.
  • Undertake home risk assessments and report and act upon any changes to ensure patient and staff safety is maintained.
  • Maintain clear and contemporaneous paper and electronic records in line with BCHC Policy.
  • Perform clinical duties as required by the Clinical Lead, Team Leader and Clinical co-ordinators.
  • Provide support and advice to patients and their families.
  • Participate in team meetings, clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision to ensure effective communication at all levels within Specialist Nursing Services.
  • To effectively communicate complex, sensitive information to children, young people, their families and carers on a frequent basis.
  • Liaise with education staff to ensure holistic support for children and young people whilst in school.
  • Liaises with health staff to discuss individual childrens/ young persons health needs to support training of carer givers
  • Establish effective communication and good working relationships with multi professional and multi agency colleagues to facilitate the effective delivery of training packages.
  • Facilitate and support the development and implementation of orientation programmes for newly appointed staff.
  • Work to professional and service standards and participate in the auditing of these standards.
  • Monitor and participate in maintaining the levels of supplies and equipment needed for the individual.
  • Participate in and maintain research-based development.
  • Contribute to the implementation of national and local quality initiatives to improve service deliver.
  • Awareness of the procedure for the reporting of complaints and incidents that occur within the team of the care packages.
  • Report sickness, absence, or unprofessional behaviour to a senior member of staff.
  • Provide a flexible service to accommodate the working environment that includes travel to visit clients within the Birmingham boundaries.
  • To work independently within BCHC guidelines and policies.
  • To maintain own professional development in line with NMC revalidation requirements and attend mandatory training identified at personal development review and NMC

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • RSCN/ or RN Child Branch
  • Evidence of relevant post related experience / on-going clinical training, and commitment to training.
  • Desirable

  • Teaching / Assessing qualification or equivalent.
