The post-holder will work collaboratively with teams to understand business drivers and customer needs and to ensure all health and safety risks are identified, assessed and managed in accordance with legislative requirements, best practice and the Group's approach to risk management and its values.

The role will be agile working from one of the offices or working from home. The role is full-time, permanent with flexible working hours in conjunction with the agile working policy.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
This role has a number of core objectives including:


Proactively support the operational planning process for all teams across the Group in the effective management of health and safety.

Support teams in the control of health and safety risk, including construction related.

Assist in the review and development of operational procedures and safe working practices to ensure plans and have been fully implemented.

Make recommendations to drive improvement and oversee performance.

  • Proactively lead the health and safety risk assessment and inspection programmes. Ensure health and safety risk is managed in accordance with legislative requirements and aligned to the Group's risk strategy and health and safety policy. Make recommendations as appropriate to ensure compliance and track actions through to a timely completion.
  • Proactively lead the planning and delivery of the training programme. Develop and deliver internal training sessions and toolbox talks. Organise and facilitate external health and safety training. Maintain training standards, session plans and accurate training records.
  • Assist in statutory consultation processes on health and safety matters. Prepare and present reports on health and safety management and performance, using management information and giving advice and making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Maintain the Group's Safety Schemes in Procurement accreditation, e.g. CHAS. Research information and gather evidence in support of submissions, ensuring criteria is achieved and key messages are communicated effectively.
  • Champion and embed the Group's Health and Safety Policy, building positive and empowering working relationships, creating a positive health and safety climate and influencing cultural change based on the Group's vision, values and business objectives.
  • Encourage the reporting of all near misses, accidents, incidents, occupational diseases and dangerous occurrences and promote a culture of learning from all loss events. Undertake investigations to identify causes, produce reports and follow up remedial actions to prevent recurrences, provide advice to improve standards and oversee that risk is being effectively managed.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of health and safety law and practice to fully discharge the duties and responsibilities of this post.
