    An opportunity has arisen for a Portering Driver based at Ayrshire Central Hospital.

    What you will do:

    The general role of the porter/driver is widely varied and consists of duties such as driving, meal delivery, item delivery, security – (monitoring CCTV, patrolling premises, locking and securing same, issuing keys, assisting with gritting) waste management, at times transfer of patients in and around some hospital areas, the transportation of: linen, specimens, stores, equipment and supplies etc. You will also coordinate all internal and external mail and assist as a presence in incidents related to violence and aggression.

    This CDU role delivers sterile instruments in carts by vehicle to ACH and UHC 3 times per day and collects the used instruments for return. You should hold a full driving licence, be physically fit to load and unload carts to and from tail lift vehicle. Good communication skills required to ensure smooth collection and delivery of a timed service appreciating the nature of a driving role and traffic activity.

    Hours: 37 per week

    This is a permanent role.

    A car driving licence is essential for this role.

    From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

    NHS Ayrshire and Arran will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so
