The role
The Financial Times is seeking a news editor for its new central banking hub.

Designed for professionals, the hub will offer users high quality information and commentary on monetary policy so that they are better able to do their jobs.

It will build scenarios for the likely interest rate decisions in the US, Eurozone, UK and Japan.

We are looking for someone with a passion for economics and understandable forms of writing. This is a start up venture within the FT, so it will be an exciting and dynamic opportunity.


Key responsibilities


You will have high quality copy editing skills, preferably some reporting or analytical background and be comfortable working in a fast-paced role in a core part of FT output.


We are looking for someone with sufficient editing skills and a desire to contribute to a specialised FT monetary policy product.

If you are someone who is fascinated by economics and monetary policy, then this is the job for you.


What we are looking for

  • Experience in editing news and commentary
  • Numeracy and the ability to think statistically
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An interest in global economics and monetary policy
  • Passionate about continuously learning in order to keep your skills at the forefront of current practice


Your previous work does not have to be in journalism or economics although having either or both would be an advantage.


Desirable Skills
We don't expect you to have all of these skills, but the ability to demonstrate experience of one or more of the following would be beneficial:

  • An existing body of journalistic work in economics or monetary policy
  • Professional expertise in monetary policy analysis
  • An academic economics background

How we work
Our hybrid setup means staff are expected to come into the office 3 days a week.

Our office is located across the street from St. Paul's Cathedral and is easily accessible from all corners of London.

There are the main train terminals such as Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Blackfriars, City Thameslink or Waterloo all situated within walking distance or there are several tube stations within a few mins walk such as Mansion House (District or Circle line), St.

Paul's (Central line), Bank (Central or Waterloo & City line) or Barbican (Central, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan lines).
