    Job Description

After more than 60 years away from Formula One, Aston Martin returned to the grid in 2021. Based in Northamptonshire, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team has more than 800 passionate people at its heart, making a team with both a rich heritage and a fresh perspective – bringing new energy to the sport with a determination to shake up the order and compete at the sharp end.

The Aston Martin era represents a journey for us, but the racer's attitude and can-do approach remain central pillars in the team's philosophy. The focus is always on improving performance and delivering results. With fresh investment and energy, the stage is set to build on Aston Martin's rich history in motorsport and establish Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team as a competitive force in the years ahead.

To succeed on this mission, the team is looking for talented individuals who share our passion for racing and hunger for competition. It's a stimulating and rewarding place to work, with pure racing at the core of everything we do. We are building for a strong future and every member of the team will play an important role in our success.

We are a brave and united team who value authenticity, honesty, and are never afraid to question conventions. We embrace these values in ways that reflect our modern world. If you share our racer's spirit and want to contribute to the next chapter in Aston Martin's glorious history, please apply and join one of the most exciting projects in Formula One.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Vehicle Modelling Engineer to join the Performance Simulation Group .

The current Formula One regulations heavily limit real world testing of a F1 car. This makes the role of unregulated simulation indispensable in the development and optimisation of many areas of a Formula One team, particularly in Performance Engineering, where the performance targets for the car design are generated, and the on-track performance of the current season's car is understood and optimised.

This role will be focused on the development of the Team's performance vehicle models and simulations, for use trackside, in the simulator and in offline vehicle development settings. Our goal is to produce a portfolio of cutting-edge tools across all simulation use cases. The position will involve cooperation with Performance Development, Simulator Development, Performance Software, Performance Optimisation, Race Engineering, Aerodynamics, R&D and Mechanical Design functions.

    Responsibilities :

    • Development of advanced physical models of a Formula One car and its subsystems
    • Development of simulation algorithms that exercise the high-fidelity vehicle model to enable engineers to perform complex analysis
    • Researching new or alternative modelling and simulation methodologies to keep the department on the bleeding edge
    • Writing readable, maintainable, and efficient code
    • Communicating with other departments to deliver projects within the Team

    Candidate Profile :

Competitive candidates will meet a range of the following criteria:

    • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline (Masters/PhD preferred)
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Motivated by finding creative and practical solutions to complex problems
    • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team, and with minimal supervision
    • Strong interest in topics such as numerical methods, control theory, statistics, computational methods, and nonlinear programming
    • Competent with MATLAB and Simulink
    • Experience with common programming languages, such as C/C++
    • Good understanding of OOP principles
    • Experience with Git or other source control tools

We will be sending out a test to all candidates on Monday 15th April 2024, so please ensure you check your junk mail.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team is committed to making sure our selection methods are fair for all. If you would like to request that reasonable adjustments are made, please complete our Request for Reasonable Adjustments form here.
