You would be expected to study for a postgraduate certificate in medical education. This will be funded by the Trust.


You will have a clinical commitment which will include OPD, theatre and on call commitments, with the intention of splitting your time between clinical (40%) and educational (60%) activity.


Your educational commitment is likely to include:

  • Undertaking educational projects with the Surgical Division and College Tutors
  • Undertaking projects relating to technical skills simulation and multiprofessional simulation with the intention of achieving presentations at national conferences
  • Work with the consultant body to develop local faculty
  • Undertake teaching sessions for Foundation and Core trainees
  • Continue to organise virtual teaching and journal club session
  • Please note this post may close early if there are sufficient applicants.
You would be expected to

  • Develop competences in medical education through studying for the Post Graduate Certificate. (This will be funded by the Trust.)
  • Undertake a variety of educational roles which could include (list not exhaustive):
  • Undertaking educational projects with the Surgical Division and College Tutors
  • Undertaking projects relating to technical skills simulation and multiprofessional simulation with the intention of achieving presentations at national conferences
  • Work with the consultant body to develop local faculty
  • Undertake teaching sessions for Foundation and Core trainees

The Surgical Divisional Chief of Service is Ms. Margaret Coyle who also holds clinical commitments as a Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon. The Specialty Director is Mr Simon Dwerryhouse.

Management of the Directorate and of the other surgical specialties including anaesthetics and ITU is undertaken through the Division of Surgery.

The Foundation Hospital is managed through six Divisions which include the following four clinical Divisions (Surgery, Medicine, Women and Children, and Diagnostic & Specialty Services).

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic surgical trainee to undertake an important role within our Trust.

The aim is to enable you to develop competences and engage in formal training in medical education while gaining further experience in elective and emergency General Surgery.

You will be key to enhancing the training of foundation doctors, core and higher surgical trainees and the wider multiprofessional team.

You would be expected to study for a postgraduate certificate in medical education or equivalent. This will be funded by the Trust.


You will have a clinical commitment which will include OPD, theatre and on call commitments, with the intention of splitting your time between clinical (60%) and educational (40%) activity.

On call commitment to be confirmed but is likely to consist of participation in the registrar emergency general surgery rota.

There are 15 slots on this rota which enables us to have 2 registrars on call during each day shift.

Nights consist of resident shifts at GRH with an SHO and 2 F1s
