The Role - Packaging Development Coordinator


Fresh People are currently looking to recruit for a Packaging Development Coordinator to support the group sustainable packaging initiative across a Fresh Produce business based in Sittingbourne in Kent.

In the role you will be identifying packaging materials out of scope of Packaging Policy and Codes of Practice ensuring out of scope materials do not enter our clients waste stream.

Ensuring only the highest quality materials for commercial recycling are used, to deliver a high value circular economy, whilst removing costly non-recyclable packaging materials.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Support the Packaging Development Manager to deliver the Group packaging strategy.
  • Manage the packaging material specification database, liaising with internal teams to capture new packaging codes; and Suppliers to ensure packaging specifications are received promptly and recorded for audits and reporting.
  • Accurate logging of Packaging Supplier BRC, ISO Certification, migration reports, ensuring all other site data is up to date and maintained including Soil Association and any other accreditations required for the Group
  • Ensuring packaging artworks are received from Packaging Suppliers and stored on central servers for referencing.
  • Reviewing of packaging arriving at all sites from Global Supply base. Evaluate materials, accurately record packaging data and review against packaging data held within the Group
  • Ensuring packaging materials conform to THG Packaging Policy and Codes of Practice. Escalate any nonconformance to the Packaging Development Manager.
  • Primary point of contact for Packaging Nonconformances. Accurately logging of nonconformances and investigate root cause analysis. Liaising with Suppliers and Operational Team reporting findings back to Packaging Development Manager.
  • Support Packaging Development Manager to generate a nonconformance procedure, cascading and ensure adherence across all sites for swift resolution and improvements in packaging performance.
  • Support Group packaging strategy and development by attending packaging trials as required. Accurate generation, submission and booking of Packaging Trials. Liaising with Suppliers and Operations teams to ensure trials are actioned and trial report is accurately recorded whilst and trials tracker maintained.

The Person

  • Good report writing skills.
  • Competency in MS Office.
  • Good analytical skills to support root cause of packaging nonconformances.
  • A good understanding of packaging materials and formats.
  • Experience of working with food retailers or food industry.
  • Must be able to travel to all sites within THG.

Measure of Performance/Key Deliverables:


  • Support the delivery of longterm packaging strategy document that meets the Board and their respective customers.
  • Accurate packaging data recording and storage for Audits and Reporting.
  • Packaging Data issued to internal customers at least quarterly.
  • Ensuring packaging compliance from an ethical and statutory perspective.
  • Own Packaging Nonconformance reporting to deliver improvements in packaging performance.
  • Support Packaging Trials, ensuring actioned on time and recorded accurately.
