The Head of Digital Products is responsible for the management of systems and resources in order to plan, estimate and implement the safe and successful transition of new and changed digital products into live, operational support.

Working closely with the Head of Technical Operations the post-holder will be the nominated Product lead and point of escalation for the authorisation of any critical release activity, ensuring that service components and packages are planned and compliant and that test, validation and configuration management are partnered in all release and deployment activities.


The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of Digital Programmes of work and projects in accordance with Prince 2 Project methodology ensuring appropriate governance for delivery on time and within budget.

This includes the delivery of a new Electronic Patient Record alongside a number of other exciting Projects.

Main duties of the job


The post-holder will take a lead responsibility for the management of systems and resources in order to plan, estimate and implement the safe and successful transition of new and changed digital products into live, operational support, ensuring no adverse impact on the Trust's approx.

13,000 staff.

This will include management of teams of specialist staff delivering Hospital Applications Development, Applications Implementation and Support, and Training, ensuring consistently high standards of ICT service and availability.


The Head of Products will be responsible for setting the release policy for the organisation in relation to both development and production/operations ensuring that the management of processes, tools, techniques and personnel are in place to ensure the successful transition of services into the operational environment.

This is an exciting time to join us. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is a large Acute Trust with strong Digital ambitions.

Digital & Information Services have a large Portfolio led by the recently appointed Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO), a member of the Executive Trust Board.

This role is varied and provides a mix of operational duties with developing product strategy.

It involves liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and supporting the deployment and management of products which directly support patient care.


The Programme Portfolio currently includes an ambitious Electronic Patient Record Programme alongside projects to exploit existing products such as Microsoft 365, and a range of Patient Engagement Tools.


This is a highly flexible role with hybrid working arrangements and an ability to work from home for a significant part of the week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Strategic

  • To take overall responsibility for all Programme and product delivery and change implementations to hospital systems ensuring alignment to the business needs.
  • To work alongside the rest of the Digital Management Team taking responsibility for the service in the absence of the Deputy Director of Digital Services as required.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Director of Digital Services and represent the Digital Services senior team as required

Operational

  • To provide a comprehensive service transition function for Applications and Products ensuring that services are maintained at maximum availability and capacity for growth.
  • Accountable for the line management for the Programme Managers, the Project Management Office, Applications Management, Applications Development and all aspects of Digital Learning, ensuring appropriate staff support, development and training.
  • Working closely with the Deputy Director and the Head of Digital Strategy and Finance to develop the Digital Strategy and associated policies and procedures.
  • To be responsible for the planning and deployment of software releases for all hospital IT systems to the live environment
