To assist with the Our Space Programmes by supporting our Lead Practitioners in the planning and delivery of workshop sessions and looking after the pastoral care of participants.

There may also be an opportunity to assist in other community projects within TRP.


The Assistant Practitioner role is a one-year fixed term contract and is designed to be a developmental and training opportunity for those interested in working in the field of community arts to gain experience and knowledge.

The Role


Our Space is a creative programme that works with people with lived experience of homelessness, mental health issues, substance misuse, reoffending or those who feel socially isolated for other reasons.


As an Assistant Practitioner, you will have lived experience, be enthusiastic about working with community groups and have some experience in this area.

The Assistant Practitioner will have some facilitation experience and will be keen to ensure the process is rewarding and enjoyable for the participants.

The Assistant Practitioner will be well versed in working in an inclusive way and will support the delivery of workshops and creative processes of the Lead Practitioner.


As the Assistant Practitioner, you will assist with the Our Space Programmes by supporting our Lead Practitioners in the planning and delivery of workshop sessions and looking after the pastoral care of participants.

There may also be an opportunity to assist in other community projects within TRP.

Here is an overview of what you would be doing:

  • To participate in workshop sessions, supporting the Lead Practitioner and leading parts of sessions as required
  • To ensure compliance with all company policies, particularly Equal Opportunities and the Protection of Vulnerable Adults
  • To support the Lead Practitioner in the monitoring and evaluation of sessions
  • To demonstrate a commitment to your own development and progression
  • To act consistently in a professional manner at all times and be a good representative for Our Space, the Producing and Programming department and the organisation as a whole
Principal Tasks

  • To be aware of the aims and objectives of the department and any specific project or programme on which you are working
  • To be aware of the plan and structure for each workshop session by liaising with the Lead Practitioner
  • To support the Lead Practitioner in the pastoral care of the participants maintaining an awareness of their needs
  • To be a positive role model to participants
  • To be prepared to take the lead on specific exercises as discussed with the Lead Practitioner and to plan exercises and warmups within the workshop structure
  • To ensure evaluation forms and registers are completed and handed to the Our Space team after every session
  • To ensure the workshop space is left clean and tidy after every session
  • To ensure that all participants have been picked up or safely departed after sessions
  • To attend all relevant meetings and practitioner training as requested
  • To feedback evaluation to the relevant Lead Practitioner and Project Manager at the end of term
  • To complete worksheets which support your learning and submit to line manager.
  • To undertake casual work with other departments from time to time
