    Job Description

    The solution architect will take ownership of the entire technical solution for a project (or subset of a larger programme) across all architecture domains and all phases of the SDLC. They will liaise with the relevant Principal and Domain Architects from the IT Strategy & Architecture Team as well as with the relevant Business Stakeholders and Programme/Project teams to ensure that the correct solution is identified, designed and delivered.

    You will have designed systems upgrades to provide enhanced digital capability within a full SDLC, ideally but not essentially within an Oracle database environment. This opportunity is offered on a hybrid working basis with attendance frequency dictated by proximity to Bristol.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    • Shape and agree the solution architecture for the project, ensuring alignment with Architecture Roadmaps, strategies, principles and standards as published and communicated by IT Architecture. This work will be guided and supported by the assigned IT Architecture Lead, Architect and other IT Architecture domain architects as relevant.
    • Engage with stakeholders at all levels to ensure that the solution identified is fully understood and supported by all stakeholders, aligned to the business need, is fit for purpose and provides value for investment made.
    • Produce the required solution architecture artefacts – Architecture Summary Document, Architecture Review Board inputs, Security Review inputs etc. This includes producing different architecture perspectives and views to ensure the proposed architecture is fully documented and described for communication to a wide variety of audiences including Business Stakeholders, Application Operations, Technical Design & Build teams etc.
    • Present the solution architecture at the Architecture Review Board for approval and ensure that ARB approval is adhered to throughout the SDLC. Should any deviations become necessary the Solution Architect is responsible for identification of same and for updating the relevant artefacts and presenting them back to ARB for approval of the amended solution architecture.
    • Present the solution architecture to Service Operations teams to support transition, Information Security Review etc.
    • Guide the solution design ensuring alignment with the approved Solution Architecture as well as with all relevant/applicable Bank standards.
    • Guide and consult with project management to ensure delivery models adopted are suitable, cost effective & the right fit.

    Essential Qualifications

    3rd level degree in similar discipline or equivalent experience.

    Essential Skills & Expertise

    • Solid technical architecture background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in solution architecture.
    • Substantial knowledge of a number of technical platforms and systems architectures.
    • Proven ability in designing, influencing and delivering end-to-end solutions in partnership with a diverse range of clients and/or stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated understanding of risk identification and management.
    • Some experience of operating in a complex stakeholder environment and managing diverse stakeholders up to senior management level.
    • Proven compelling written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to make technical conversations relevant to business and vice versa.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-vendor environment and across a range of SDLCs with a focus on delivering quality outcomes.

    Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

    • Experience of working in Banking or Financial Services.
    • IT Architecture qualifications such as CITA-F or TOGAF.
    • Cloud qualifications such as AWS, Azure, GCP.
