Description
You will be required to work alongside medical and nursing staff and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
This role will require you to work in a multitude of locations ranging from wards, outpatients, clinics and community services (including a variety of geographic locations).
Concentration and attention to details are essential to this role. The post holder will offer a helpful and professional service to all visitors and telephone callers and will assist in the provision of a high-quality servicePlease note:
You will be required to work a flexible shift pattern between 06:30 and 20.00 Monday - Sunday if and when required.
You will be required to undertake a range of protocol driven tasks, working to tight targets and deadlines.These tasks will include being required to handle clinical specimens, accurately record data for quality assurance monitoring procedures, as well as other administrative duties.
TechnicalTo comply with local and national policies for the safe, secure and confidential processing, and storage of patient and other patient information
To use the computer information systems (e.g. EPIC Positive Patient Identification Systems) as per authorised protocols
To maintain the integrity and accuracy of computer databases.
Clinical
To adhere to the protocols for the accurate and positive confirmation of the identity of patients prior to drawing blood samples
To obtain venous and capillary blood samples from adult patient
To adhere to the protocols for the accurate and positive labelling of blood samples immediately following the collection of the specimen from the patient
To be responsible for blood samples reaching the laboratories in a timely manner
To maintain adequate stocks of sample containers and needles on the trolleys and workstations
To actively pursue good professional working relations with all staff groups on the wards/ outpatient clinics
To be polite, sensitive and professional at all times to our patients, their families and all other hospital staff and colleagues.

A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London.
AdministrativeTo assist with record keeping, to ensure compliance with good work practices required for the standards of IS
To advise the Phlebotomy Senior Management Team when stocks of consumables are approaching minimum stock levels
To report to the Phlebotomy Senior Management Team any instance or event which may cause a service delivery failure.
To participate in an annual Performance, Planning and Review process in order to agree/ achieve objectives to support personal development and the department
To actively undertake supervision, giving accurate feedback on performance using the appropriate paperwork on the day of supervision, of junior staff and students (including external students and medical students)

To maintain good work relations with all members of staff, and to promote effective teamwork
To treat everyone associated with our Host Trusts with courtesy and respect
To ensure compliance with all local and national standards of work practice e.g. IS
To maintain and promote the professional image of Synnovis Pathology, Guy's & St Thomas' and King's College Hospital NHS Trusts.
Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.
The partnership provides services to 1.7 million people living in South East London, as well as to hundreds of thousands of patients from outside the region who use local healthcare services.

Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital Foundation Trust is a major emergency and specialist teaching Trust which has all the specialties associated with a fascinating and career defining case load including: Women's Services, Fetal Medicine, Haematology, Oncology, Transplantation, and is also home to the Evelina Children's Hospital and the Cancer Centre on the Guy's site.
