    Default job background
    Full time
    Description

    Job overview

The Colorectal Stoma Care Nursing Department is looking for a nurse with post registration experience in surgery to support patients with stomas.

The Stoma Care Nurse Specialist role is for a 1 year secondment at Band 6 with opportunities for career progression and relevant, specialist study.

This is a great opportunity to gain practical and clinical skills in caring for patients with ileostomies, colostomies and complex fistulas. At the same time, you will gain excellent experience working at a higher, more specialised level within a supportive and dynamic team.

The current post-holder is going on a 12 month secondment, hence the need for this post. Although it is currently for 12 months only, you will be well supported and trained and developed within this specialist service.

The post-holder will work Monday to Friday and although a degree of flexible working can be supported, the post holder will be expected to work on site due to the need to physically see patients on the ward, in clinic and pre operatively.

    Main duties of the job

The role encompasses seeing patients in clinic before their stoma formation to support and educate, siting the stoma immediately pre operatively, supporting and training the patient on stoma care post formation and provide ongoing advice and guidance.

You should have an interest in this speciality and be able to communicate sensitively with patients and their families during, what can, a life changing operation.

You will care for patients with long term conditions as well as patients going through cancer treatment. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills within a specialist service, whilst being able to deliver true person-centred care
