Description

Senescent cell state is a consequence of irreparable damage and characterised by arrested growth, changed morphology and secretion of biochemical packages of information into the surrounding environment.

Their level increases as we age, but they are also present in tissues that has been exposed to high level of stress, for example after chemo
- and radiotherapy. Detection followed by elimination of senescent cells has beneficial effects on life and health span,and could also help assessing the early development of cancer as well as designing more tailored therapeutic interventions.
