Specialist Pharmacist (Band 7)

Dispensing services and Older People's Service

Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Glasgow Royal Infirmary

The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday 8.45 to 17.00 but includes participation in weekend working, on-call and in public holidays

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a dispensary lead pharmacist and specialist clinical pharmacist within the Older People's Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The post is split equally between the clinical and dispensary roles.

You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide pharmaceutical care to patients within this specialty, in both acute medical receiving and downstream care of the elderly and stroke wards.

The pharmacist is a valued member of the MDT within the Older People's Service and the management of frailty, including the development of integrated care pathways, is a high priority within the health board.

The team has recently undergone restructuring with the aim of developing new and advanced clinical pharmacist and technician roles, including input to clinics.

In the dispensary, you will be professionally responsible for the day to day running of the department.

You will maintain and introduce standard operating procedures and work instructions and ensure staff are able to comply with these.

You will contribute to the board wide dispensary operational group and undertake quality improvement work to advance services offered within the department.

Daily problem solving will be required and efficient communication with various teams will be vital. You will work closely with the senior leadership team within GRI.

This is an exciting time to join the dispensary team given the Scottish Government supported service for community pharmacy supply on discharge as well as the current advancements in the IDL system and the imminent change to the pharmacy stock management system.

You will have an influential role in how these systems translate into practices within the dispensary. This role will give you a unique opportunity to develop leadership and management skills.

Advancing practice is also a high priority and Glasgow Royal Infirmary is committed to the development of the pharmacy workforce in line with Moving Pharmacy Forward A Strategic Framework This post would suit a pharmacist with a minimum of 2 years experience completing their Post Registration Foundation Programme or commencing the Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum and undertaking Independent Prescribing would be supported.

In addition to undertaking personal professional development, the postholder will be expected to provide support to experiential learning students, trainee pharmacists and post-registration foundation pharmacists in dispensary and clinical services.

You will be required to participate in on-call, weekend and public holiday services.
