Title Event Management volunteerNewington Green Alliance (NGA) is a small charity working to build strong, deeply connected community that reduces suspicion and mistrust, crime and loneliness and improve mental health, happiness, educational success, community financial strength, and mutual support.
PROJECT
Among the ways NGA can bring people together and help them to connect with and understand each other better is by running local events.
The local events we plan to run over the coming months include:Conferences on relevant local topics such as gentrification, classism, and loneliness.
Community work days where diverse local people work side by side to improve the area for everyone
Intercultural food events where everyone brings a dish their grandmother might have made and cross-cultural connections are made
As an NGA Event Management volunteer, you will work as part of the Event Management team to design, create, and lead local events.
Planning and designing the structure of eventsSeeking community event ideas
Working with the Digital Marketing and Website teams to create effective event promotion
Work with the Fundraising Team to secure greater funding for local community-building events
Seek out and develop partnerships with local organisations and other groups
Select and organise event venues
Manage and facilitate events
Setup and take-down of events
Time required will vary depending on the specific responsibilities of each volunteer and the time relative to a conference.
On average, we estimate that each volunteer will need to devote 2-3 hours per week to the work of the Conference Team.
Skills required for all Conference Team members:Flexible about changes in plan and setbacks
Experience with planning and managing events.
Familiarity with social, financial, and similar issues in the Hackney and Islington areas
Comfortable with contacting and building relationships with groups and organisations
Persuasive writing skills
Understanding of community sociology
Report writing Activities
