Description
The Mechanical designer engineer's role is to transpose both the sales quotation and customer specification into a design that meets the outlined requirements.
The design must utilise the fabrication techniques available and materials approved by the Engineering Manager in a cost-effective way.Responsibilities:
- Responsible for generation of Assembly drawings and bills of materials
- Provide technical support to Production, Sales, Service and Customer Support.
- Adhere to the ISO 9001 quality system.
- To deliver projects on schedule and on budget, demonstrating the ability to handle the pressure of managing a complex range of projects, a high volume of work, within a fast pace of implementation.
- Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost
- Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, simulation and design verification testing, as required
- Ensures design files and information are kept up to date, and stored in accordance with departmental procedures
- Highlights all mechanical technical risks to the Engineering Manager
- Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards
- Liaises with other departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner
- Works closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture
- Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner
- Work to deadlines and KPI targets set by the Engineering Manager.
- Interact with Sales and Production departments to optimise designs and resolve fabrication and assembly issues.
Essential:
- Mechanical Design
- Ability to understand/produce technical drawings
- Comprehensive knowledge of at least one modern 3D modelling package (preferably AutoDesk Inventor).
- Working knowledge of mechanical engineering practices materials, fixings, fabrication, ingress protection concepts etc.
- Good communication skills, dealing with other employees and external clients
- Ability to work to strict deadlines.
- Experience in a similar role
Desirable:
Experience of designing sheet metal constructions.
Experience of performing structural analysis (FEA and/or CFD) using design tools such as Ansys.
Knowledge of designing production tooling.
Qualifications:
Degree or HND/ HNC Mechanical Engineering with equivalent experience
Experienced user of 3D modelling software.
