Description
We are looking to recruit a general assistant to work in our busy production unit on a weekend contract.


The post holder will have previous experience of cleaning to a high standard, take pride in their work and knowledge of food hygiene principles.


To work as part of the catering team undertaking basic food preparation duties, general cleaning tasks, packing and assembling foods in a chilled environment, as well as the delivery of patient food trolleys to and from wards.

All duties are in accordance with departmental and HACCP procedures.


The Catering Department at University Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides food and beverages to patients at both our St.

Richards and Worthing Sites.


As a whole department we have front of house staff who work at ward level interacting with the patients, as well as the back of house staff who produce, assemble and deliver food to ward level.


You will be working within the kitchen production team which produce and supply ambient, chilled and cook frozen meals to patients at both Worthing and St.

Richards Hospitals.

The CPU at St.
Richards is the main production kitchen where food is produced, stored and distributed.


As part of this team you will be supported by chefs, general assistants, stores persons and management to ensure the kitchen is maintained to a high standard at all times.

The staff are hardworking, friendly, work as a team and will support one another were needed.

  • Packing foodstuffs to order
  • Decanting
  • Lidding and Labelling
  • Stock rotation
  • Cleaning
  • Use of temperature probe
  • Reheating foodstuffs.
  • Manual handling
Communication

  • Maintain good communication, liaison and working arrangements with own team and other hospital departments.
  • Receive orders from Ward food service staff, and record these on the appropriate paperwork.
  • Communicate with others in a courteous, cooperative and sympathetic manner with due regard for privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Read and understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Read and understand HACCP and Quality assurance documents, such as cleaning schedules and complete these accurately.
  • Receive instruction and direction from the line manager
Analyticaland Judgemental Skills

  • Understand basic HACCP principles and food hygiene policies and procedures, and act upon straightforward day to day issues.
  • Report any Health and Safety, and/or Food Safety issues to the Team leader in good time, including any equipment failures or defects.
  • Recognise when advice should be sought from the team leader, and be able to escalate problems and concerns.
Planning and Organisational Skills

  • Preparation of ward provisions e

g:
bread, milk, and breakfast items for delivery to wards.

  • Undertake basic food preparation including salads, sandwiches, and cold sweets as required. Organise own day to day tasks and activities and complete these within set timescales.
