**Technical Operator

  • Virtual Events**Salary
  • Up to £35,000 DOE


With GDS Group forecasting in excess of 3000 virtual events in 2023 across both its stage and screen formats, the Studio Technical Operator will support the operational and strategic delivery requirements of the company's studio environment as it relates to its technical configurations - focused on driving technical efficiency and execution across all facets of live production, from its new, state-of-the-art studio facilities.


Reporting to the Senior Studio Technical Manager, the Studio Technical Operator will have ownership of all technical systems workflows, equipment, configurations and troubleshooting across all GDS studios.

In addition, the Studio Technical Operator will also provide technical and production systems consultancy to GDS Group's Producers when building highly bespoke and complex shows.


As the Studio Technical Operator, you will collaborate with the company's in-house Production, Design, Video, Producer & Presenting teams - contributing to the successful delivery of BAU studio outputs to exceptional standards.


In addition, you will play a key role in GDS Group's studio innovation - pushing the boundaries of what's technically possible in virtual and mixed reality environments and championing the company's position as a leading virtual events provider.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and management of the studio's daily technical activities and outputs, ensuring the smooth running of all technical workflows, delivery mechanisms and technical processes
  • Working in partnership with GDS Group's Head of Studio to ensure studio budgeting and associated technical cost controls align with the company's P&L
  • Consulting with GDS Group's Producers on complex show systems workflows and building technical execution proposals and solutions
  • Ownership of technical equipment and facilities resource mapping aligned to the studio's master schedule
  • Supporting technical requirements, ensuring inventory and technical support as and when required
  • Troubleshooting on production and technical challenges with both instudio and operational delivery teams, providing viable solutions to unique and complex situations
  • Managing the ongoing equipment and inventory requirements of the studio's stages and backoffice functions including the sourcing, negotiation and management of equipment with third party suppliers
  • Championing GDS Group's studio facility as an innovation house and leading provider of disruptive live production formats for the virtual events marketplace
Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in TV/film/broadcast/virtual studio facilities
  • A balance of technical knowledge, process workflows and innate problemsolving skillset
  • Innately organised with critical attention to detail
  • A selfstarting approach to continuous technical innovation and streamlining production efficiencies
  • An ability to balance commercial goals with the principle of efficient and wellplanned technical production
  • A passion for live studio production and an interest in the future of virtual live experiences
