    Job summary

    GP Training Programme Director - Swindon 12 month FTC 2 sessions

    An opportunity has arisen for a permanent GP Training Programme Director in the Swindon GP Training programme.

    You will be required to work mainly Wednesdays.

    The role of Training Programme Director is focused on the improvement of learner supervision, assessment, educational experience and outcomes and patient safety for GP trainees. This role is continuously evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.

    You will be based mainly within the Swindon programme and will involve working at the GWH site to deliver the GP curriculum preparing trainees to achieve MRCGP. There may also be some requirement to support other GP training programmes across the South west.

    The successful applicant will work with other local TPDs and administrators to facilitate the provision of the half day release course for GPs in training, including managing available funds and resources.

    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead and be responsible for facilitating the provision of education for General Practice trainees in Swindon GP training programme as well as working with the GP educational supervisors and local Primary Care Networks to support GP training across the geographical footprint of the patch.

    Main duties of the job

    NHSE supports the delivery of high quality care for patients and high quality public health services by ensuring that the health workforce has the right skills, behaviours and training, and that health care staff are available in the right numbers to meet the needs of the public.

    It takes on leadership and oversight of healthcare workforce planning and will also be responsible for supporting and authorising Local Education and Training boards. NHSE will maintain an effective system for professional education and training as part of a comprehensive health service.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • General practitioner with MRCGP
  • Attendance at courses to support educational development (eg Train the trainer etc)
  • Desirable

  • Certificate or diploma in medical education or management
  • Skills and Abilities

    Essential

  • Innovative and inclusive approach to delivering high quality education
  • Srong interpersonal , communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of current primary care issues
  • Significant experience of working within education/health
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of adult educational theory and practice
  • Experience and Knowledge

    Essential

  • Proven experience of regularly working as a clinician in general practice, after completion of vocational training, with current full registration with the GMC
  • Expereince of working with learners or Drs in training within an educational context
  • Knowledge of adult education theory and delivery in service
  • Deomnstrates a proactive approach to CPD as a clinician in their professional role
  • Desirable

  • Experience in providing support to Drs in training, and issues facing GP DiTs
  • Evidence of understanding of issues surrounding General practice / Training
  • Understaning of Differential attainment and ED&I issues affecting DiTs / Primary Care
