About the role
Balfour Beatty have an exciting opportunity for a
Planner to work in the BBVS Planning Team on a complex station project,
HS2 Old Oak Common Station (OOC), closest stations are East Acton or Willesden Junction.
OOC is a new super-hub set to be the best-connected and largest new railway station ever built in the UK.
This £2 billion station will open in 2032 and is expected to be one of the busiest railway stations in the country with high-speed rail services to the Midlands, Scotland and the North, and access to central London and Heathrow via the Elizabeth line.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line.
Old Oak Common will also provide high speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports.
Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
As a Planner initially, you will be working on the Public Realm packages, including all hard and soft landscaping, drainage, architectural metal work, tree planting and lighting.
You will also work on the procurement and tender review of all subcontract packages for the fit out stage of the project.
What you'll be doing
Other Key responsibilities are:
- Produce plans and programmes for submission, and associated reporting.
- Ensure the plan and programme incorporate allowance for safe working methods and timely construction, and the production of safety related documentation.
- Ensure that all interfaces are properly identified and mapped in the integrated accepted programme.
- Identify risk to the programme, make time risk allowance in the programme and contribute to the project risk and opportunity log.
- Development of Whatif scenarios to mitigate potential schedule delay and proactively report to the Planning Lead,
- Communicate and gain approval from the project team for the methods proposed and the sequence of the plan utilising visual aids (e.g. stage diagrams; sequence diagrams etc.).
- Liaise and negotiate with suppliers communicating our proposed methods and sequence.
Who we're looking for
You will have the following:
- Proficient in use of planning software packages (Ideally P6)
- Previous experience working as a planner within the infrastructure industry
- Engineer with Construction or other engineering experience with a willingness to learn planning within a complex project environment.
