Hours per week: 6 month fixed-term contract, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Weekend and overtime work available.

Job Purpose

  • To perform all work safely; on time; to the agreed standard; and that it is compliant with legislation.
  • They listen and understand all information contained within the risk assessments, COSHH assessments and Plans of work relating to the removal repair, encapsulation of asbestos containing materials and associated tasks.
  • Understand and comply with the Plan of Work and all associated risk and COSHH assessments as communicated by the Asbestos Supervisor and/or other senior MSS Environmental staff.
  • Use the correct tools and equipment for the task being undertaken.
  • Carry out daily "user" inspections of their RPE in accordance with the documented system.
  • Take reasonable care not to endanger themselves or other through their act or omissions.
  • Cooperate with the company on all aspects of Health, Safety and Welfare.
  • Inform the Supervisor of any accidents, cases of occupational ill health, dangerous occurrences and near misses.
  • Inform the Supervisor of any underlying medical condition that may affect the ability to undertake any particular task or tasks.
  • Inform the Supervisor where they are unable to correct any faults that could prevent the asbestos works being completed safely, successfully on time.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment is used in a safe condition and fit for purpose.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is used as instructed for its correct use, storage, and procedures followed for obtaining replacements.
  • Inform the Supervisor of their own training and assessment needs and potential operational improvement opportunities.
  • To ask the Supervisor if in any doubt at any time.
  • To follow what is expected of them with regard to safety, timekeeping, attendance, conduct, behaviour and work performance.
  • To set a good personal example at all times.
  • To ensure that Company plant, equipment and materials are maintained, treated with respect and kept securely.
  • Take responsibility where applicable for company vehicle condition from a mechanical and general cleanliness perspective.

Accountabilities

  • All accidents, cases of occupational illhealth, dangerous occurrences and near misses and any potential for accidents are reported to the Supervisor.
  • Work is performed safely/compliant, agreed quality standard and ontime.
  • No issues raised through external audits.
  • Compliant results from all audits.
  • Opportunities for improvements identified and communicated through regular communication with site Supervisor.
  • All site paperwork is being completed correctly.
  • Any key issues communicated to Supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Health & Safety compliance.
  • HSG 247 compliant/UKATA Category C
  • Asbestos Operatives Training Course.
  • Good level of asbestos industry experience as an operative (minimum of 6 months) relevant to the role.
  • Good level of experience as an operative in projects involving a range of ACMs and removal techniques.
  • Industry and regulatory technical competence.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Will be required to undertake ARCA Operative competency scheme and/or NVQ.
