This is an exciting and varied role that will give you a step into the world of forestry, where you'll work alongside colleagues on the island on tasks such as undertaking surveys, vegetation management, maintenance of our recreational sites, litter picking, tree felling, enhancing environmental and archaeological sites.


Forest Craftspersons are required to drive as part of their role, if you have not yet attained a full UK manual drivers license this must be attained within 3 months of commencing employment in this role.

Job description:

You'll predominantly work outdoors, assisting in forest management and Stewardship tasks such as tree felling, Fencing and planting.


A large part of your Role will be Liaising with the Visitor services team, tending with maintenance of recreational facilities including footpaths, signage and carparks.


You will also provide on the ground support to colleagues in areas of timber harvesting, environment and wildlife ranger teams when required.

This may involve delivering materials to harvesting sites, repairing key boundary deer fences, installing goal posts and carrying out work on environment sites such as invasive weed control and maintenance of our Ancient monuments.


Along with the daily tasks you will be required to attend training courses to increase your knowledge and skills which may at times require you to travel, attend team meetings throughout the year and work closely with the Worksite Supervisor and Forester in charge to prioritise and deliver the programme of work for the year.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience of working outdoors such as forestry operations, construction, landscaping
  • Ability to solve problems on your own and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, face to face or digitally.

Desirable:

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Be willing to learn and improve your own skills through training and mentoring.
