    Brief Description

    The Asset Protection Engineer is responsible for managing the Engineering activities associated with a portfolio of projects through the various stages of the life cycle and to support and assist the Project Manager in delivering successful outcomes for the overall team activities.

    To provide the professional engineering and technical interface with outside and third parties and manage the engineering and safety specification for the safe delivery of outside and third party activities so that cost, time and quality objectives are met and delivered within corporate guidelines and engineering risk is identified and mitigated. To deliver competent engineering assurance in compliance with engineering standards and legislation.

    The WC South Aspro Team manages both conventional Aspro scheme Works (bridges, UTXs, adjacent developments, liaising with multi disciplines within NWR) and NWR / HS2 interface scheme works.

    Conventional Aspro has a new station scheme and a major track renewal scheme with multiple structures.

    There are other major schemes that are currently on hold

    This is a secondment opportunity for 12 months and has the potential to become permanent.

    About the role (External)

    The Asset Protection Engineer is responsible for managing the Engineering activities associated with a portfolio of projects through the various stages of the life cycle and to support and assist the Project Manager in delivering successful outcomes for the overall team activities.

    Activities and requirements include:

    1.Carrying out the engineering to a portfolio of projects from inception to completion, including assessing project remits, producing cost estimates, schedules of works, negotiating simple agreements with clients, signing off method statements, assessing design approvals required and monitoring site activities.

    2.Competence in communicating effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, orally and in writing.

    3.Knowledge and competence in applying management and company/industry standards and practices to day to day work.

    4.Competence in appreciating the impacts on the railway from the wide variety of projects characteristic of the team's work.

    5.Competence in planning activities and thinking clearly about objectives and timescales for achieving them.

    6.Competence in managing, motivating and mentoring others when required.

    7.Competence in persuasiveness as applicable to enforcing railway requirements on clients and contractors in a professional manner.

    8.Appreciation of access planning and possession requirements.

    9.Being organised in day to day activities.

    10.Relevant successful construction experience in the railway industry at a professional level.

    11.Commercial, financial and contractual awareness and experience in cost estimating, forecasting and working to budgets and commercial/contractual/ financial criteria.

    12.Ability and experience in managing submissions by contractors, consultants and clients.

    13.Safety, environmental and quality consciousness.

    14.Driver of behavioural improvements in both self and others in order to help the whole team succeed in meeting company objectives.

    15.Educated to degree level in preferably Civil Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent.

    16.Professional, first class, consistent and effective engineering abilities.

    17.Membership (or working towards membership) of an Engineering Institution or other professional bodies, or equivalent.
